Taste Real’s Fifth Annual Spring Wellington Rural Romp will be held Saturday, May 30, giving visitors a taste of local food, an opportunity to experience local agriculutre and find the story behind your
food.

A total of fifteen farms, markets, gardens and restaurants in Mapleton, Minto and Wellington North will open their doors to the public for this free, self-guided tour that runs from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Rompers will have the opportunity to meet with local farmers, visit farm animals, participate in farm activities and wander through unique rural gardens as well as purchasing seedlings, flowers, plants, spring produce and local foods.

New this year and inspired by Wellington North’s Butter Tart Trail™, the Rural Romp is hosting a Butter Tart Challenge. Eight participating Rural Romp locations will offer their own unique butter tarts or butter tart inspired desserts. Participants are encouraged to taste and share their butter tart-related photos on Facebook or Twitter using #SpringRomp15. All entries will be entered in a draw to win a Butter Tart Trail™ prize.

Rompers are also encouraged to particpate in the Spring Romp Photo Contest. Prizes will be awarded for the best photo in three different categories: farmscapes, family fun and food.

For more information on the photo contest, or to download your copy of the Rural Romp Guide, visit www.tastereal.ca.

The Romp will also be your first opportunity to get your hands on the new 2015-2016 Guelph Wellington Local Food Map. The Local Food Map is a year-round guide to sourcing and experiencing local food and includes information on farms, restaurants, retailers, craft breweries, food events and more. All participating locations will have the Guide and Local Food Map available for pick-up.

Taste Real is an initiative of the County of Wellington that works with over 100 food and farm businesses to promote local food and local food experiences in Guelph and Wellington County. Taste Real partner businesses include farms, farmers’ markets, retail outlets, restaurants, food processors, caterers and craft breweries.
